The Louis Vuitton Cup 2005/2007
For these LVC the rule has been totally changed.
The protocol introduced to the LVC additionally 13
“Acts”
The Acts with odd numbers were fleet-races
(the whole fleet sailed against points)- the „Acts“
with the even numbers were match races (1
team sailed vs. another one)
It was surprising that until the Round Robins the
AC defender „Alinghi“ participated in these races of
the challengers. This gave the defender a great
advantage, as he could collect a lot of experience
watching the competitors.
In a complicated points system some points
collected in the Acts were counted already for the
Round Robins.
The rest run in old tracks : 2 Round Robins (RR),
Semifinals, Final no Repêchage Rounds any more.
There were held at various places (Marseilles,
Naples, Trampine, Valencia) a total of 566 races.

For financial reasons it took a little longer
before the family of the late Jan Stenbeck
should apply for a new challenge.
This depended on sponsors. The second
larger sponsor Red Bull supported for the
first time a LVC team.
